Adult Learning Services and English as an Additional Language (EAL) Services

Provided by Chilliwack Learning Society

Provides a trained tutor in order to improve skills in English, basic reading, writing, math skills, and learning to use computers, cell phones or tablets.
Adult Learning Services: Adults who are 19 and over can work with a free volunteer tutor once a week to achieve a learning goal. This goal could range from improving basic reading, writing, or math skills, to learning to use computers, cell phones or tablets. Most tutor and learner matches are one to one, but we sometimes offer group sessions. Basic computer classes are provided for seniors based on volunteer availability. Tutors are available to work alongside learners who are in upgrading classes or working towards their Adult Dogwood. Training materials and support are provided for CLS tutors.
English as an Additional Language (EAL) Services: Volunteer tutors provide one-on-one and small group classes for adults whose first language is not English. Everyone is welcome: visitors, temporary workers, international students, permanent residents, and Canadian citizens. Opportunities include (registration is required):
  • Evening conversation circles at the Sardis library
  • One-on-one tutoring with a volunteer
  • Small group classes
Tablet and Cell Phone Training: Trained volunteers offer small group and one-on-one sessions that include a variety of entertaining activities.
