Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Support Services

Offers support and services to people with acquired brain injuries and their families.
Drop-In & Leisure Programs: Offers a social place for people with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and their families to provide mutual support and education. Topics are directed by the needs of the group and may span topics as varied as how to compensate for memory loss, anger, depression, boundaries, relationships, exercise, nutrition, sleep, anxiety, relaxation, health in general, sexuality and personal boundaries.

Case Management: Provides support to brain injury survivors of all ages and their families. Case managers assist families in finding and accessing appropriate community services and resources, assisting with reintegration into the community and offering support with applications for services.

Young at Arts Summer Camp(s): Offers Young at Arts Summer Camp(s) for children affected by ABI. Children who have acquired brain injuries, siblings and children who have a parent(s) with ABI join together in fun-filled activities focused on art and nature.

Health & Wellness: FVBIA offers a variety of activities that focus on nutrition, fitness and emotional wellness. These may include art, photography, gentle yoga, walking/fitness, support/education groups etc.

Education & Networking Groups: Groups are offered in Langley, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. The groups focus on sharing, developing skills and learning to function as well as possible with the cognitive and emotional challenges of ABI.

Resources and Information: Provides general information on acquired brain injury (ABI).

Eligibility for Services:To be eligible for services, individual must have proof of a diagnosis of an acquired brain injury. This must be confirmed by medical and/or rehabilitation documentation. Additional eligibility criteria for ongoing services include:
  • Residency and citizenship requirements
  • Currently living within the boundaries of Fraser Valley Brain Injury Association (Langley to Boston Bar)
  • Limited or no funding from other sources (i.e. ICBC rehabilitation, ICBC settlement, Worker’s Compensation Board, Crime Victim Assistance Program, Long or Short Term Disability Programs
