Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Program: For the 2025-2026 RSV season, eligible infants and children under 2 years of age can receive Nirsevimab, a single-dose monoclonal antibody injection which provides protection against severe illness due to RSV infection. RSV season is typically from October until the end of March.
Infants and children under 2 years of age may qualify for the following reasons:
- Born premature
- Have chronic medical conditions
- Live in remote communities or congregate settings.
See RSV Screening Referral form for detailed eligibility criteria. Eligible infants born during the 2025-2026 RSV season may receive Nirsevimab before discharge from NICU or perinatal unit. Eligible infants who didn’t receive Nirsevimab in hospital or who were born outside of the RSV season can receive Nirsevimab in the community. Eligible children under 2 years can also receive Nirsevimab in the community. To refer, complete the RSV Screening Referral form and depending on patient’s location send referral to the Island Health RSV clinic intake, or to the Public Health immunization support intake.
